Peep into any of the thousands of yoga classes across the globe and you will find that students are donning more than just yoga outfits. In addition to the latest leggings and tank tops by (insert your favorite designer here) you’ll also find students of every age, both male and female, sporting a different kind of accessory. These, however, are not made from lycra, mala beads or precious metals, but rather from an overzealous nervous system.

Sure we’re conscious of all that elongating the spine jazz on the mat, but how often do we dip into slumpasana the rest of the day? Not only does good posture help prevent back and neck pain and open air passageways for better breathing helping your brain and rest of your body function more efficiently (huzzah!), it can help improve your mood and overall outlook, and that’s not just because you’re standing two inches taller.
Ah, the sweet smell of burning herbs and sandalwood. It’s how you know the yoga’s nigh. But what if we told you that smoky aroma isn’t helping your pranayama, it may be causing respiratory issues and maybe even cancer? Yikes! We recently spotted this blog post warning us all about the hazards of inhaling the holy smokes that are prominent not just in yoga studios but in other sacred or religious institutions.
