Some of you have already heard of this guy, maybe read about the girl in the red dress or have seen his latest photo feature now on The New York Times blog. That’s one thing we can count on in The Gray Lady, they tend to do a bang up job on the yoga art [...]
In this Hollywood Reporter clip from Cannes, ’30 Rock’ star and Jack-spired guru, Alec Baldwin, shares his problems getting started with yoga and how being in a health-compatible relationship has helped him feel and live better. Baldwin’s fiancé is NYC yoga teacher Hilaria Thomas, whom he recently defended from yogarazzi ‘slime’ and whom he credits for his better nutrition via “the cracker face.”
“Meditation is really discovering the love and the bliss that can be inside, and dancing is such a natural expression of that. Just connecting to the pulse, to the music, it allows that energy that’s inside to explode outside.” Shephali Agrawal, a lawyer and a volunteer director at the Art of Living center in New York, gushes on getting freaky in the club and the bursting yoga party scene.

While some of you would rather vinyasa over hot coals than hear more Anusara beeswax, there are still many practitioners, teachers and bystanders left in limbo, feeling frustrated and utterly perplexed, especially after the latest missives transmitted from Anusara HQ.

I’ve had a long, tumultuous relationship with yoga. We first met in the early 90s and were inseparable, until a misguided physical therapist told me yoga was bad for my neck (boy was he wrong). After going our separate ways, we reunited several years later and had a series of torrid on-again off-again affairs until about 10 years ago, when we finally settled down. Like any relationship, we’ve had our share of ups and downs, but things have improved since I learned to navigate the ‘downs.’ Perhaps the trickiest part of a relationship is when the initial burst of bliss and excitement is over and the mundane sets in – that is, when the honeymoon’s over.

Diamond Dallas Page may be a former 3 time world champion wrestler who eschews yoga “mumbo jumbo” in exchange for chaturanga pushups. He may have been that guy posing with half naked women touting “T & A” to promote his EXTREME yoga workout. He may be the in your face hard ass with the rock ‘n roll intro music, a punchy ‘fist’ed logo and a joking and somewhat cringeworthy tagline “It Ain’t Your Mama’s Yoga!” Pow!

Maybe you know Bethenny Frankel from one of her many reality shows (ie The Real Housewives of New York City, Bethenny Ever After, Bethenny Getting Married, etc.) or from her Skinnygirl enterprises or from her several books or from her yoga-fueled enthusiasm and postpartum bounce back after having her first baby.
Congrats to Tao Porchon-Lynch! For making the record books and successfully making us feel duly inspired and incredibly lazy!
