Breaking! Video gamers trade blasting bad guys for virtual yoga class!* Ha, just kidding. Microsoft held a big fancy launch party on Sunday night to kick off, and show off, Kinect, (previously known as Project Natal) and their new Xbox 360 contribution to the fitness gaming world, Kinect Sports (think Wii Fit). As part of their demos, alongside performances from acrobatic wood nymphs, also known as Cirque du Soleil, was a glimpse of the new yoga game. Really, it was pretty much just a glimpse from what we gather, and no official title, but at least now there is confirmation to the speculation from back in March when the top secret intelligence leaked online. So far all we know is that players will emulate the instructor on the screen (a model?) and some crazy new sensor technology will know if you’re doing the poses correctly. Also, there is supposed to be some Tai Chi mixed in. Surely more details will surface soon enough and we’ll leave that to the gaming dorks, who have already taken to the obligatory ‘yoga sux’ jokes and put in the earnest request for yoga star Playmate of the Year ’09 Sara Jean Underwood to lead the sessions.
*in reality, the yoga game, along with warm and fuzzy titles like Kinectimals are designed to snag the female factor, often missing from the quest to dominate every human’s braincells on the planet Earth. Standard gamer ilk are just gravy.
