Yoga Hero: At Almost 92-Years-Old, Tao Porchon-Lynch Will Teach Yoga As Long As She Lives

by YD on April 20, 2010

in News,Yoga Heroes

tao-porchon-lynchThis is Tao Porchon-Lynch, the 91-year-old* yoga master and inspiration to us all! Watch the video via CNN Money (they did a story on America’s oldest workers).

“There is nothing you cannot do” These words are emblazoned across Lady Tao’s website.

From www.taoporchon-lynch.com:
Tao Porchon-Lynch, Master Yoga teacher, 91 years young, synthesizes the most positive aspects of Indian, European and American thought.  Tao is uniquely equipped to spread Yogic insights, originating in India, to Westerners seeking enlightenment.  She has trained and certified hundreds of yoga instructors, since founding the Westchester Institute of Yoga in 1982. Tao has over 60 years of yoga practice and more than 36 years of teaching yoga to students in India, France and the U.S.

AND she’s a competitive ballroom dancer! She’s overcome hip replacement surgery and warnings that she may not be able move like she used to. Good thing she ignored all of that. “I’m not going to give up,” Porchon-Lynch says. “I’m going to dance and do yoga for as long as I live.”

*confirmed she’s 91, her bday’s in August if you care to send wishes!

my inspiration as a teacher was a student in her 70s who was recovering from a double mastectomy and CAME ON THE BUS IN THE RAIN for my class.

She would probably have to live down a name like Tao if she hopes to attract fellow seniors, plus-size, or the slightly disabled to her class … (and why NOT?) maybe just maybe, she doesn’t want ‘em … just look at her !

Not true! I’ve taken numerous workshops with Tao and she is the the most loving and helpful yoga teacher I know! She can encourage even the hesitant student to do more than they thought they could.

Dear Tao,
You are an inspiration to me.I am a young girl who recently got operated for slip disc and I love dancing.

Today I feel so inspired looking at you. This inspiration will turn into implementation for me to dance again. Wish to meet you some day.

Thank you
