The Concept:

The banks got billions, but where’s your bailout? We’ve been thinking about this a lot. Everyone is gasping for a bailout, in an era when the economy has seen brighter days, to put it lightly. A stimulus we need indeed, and at the risk of sounding hokey, it occurred to us in a moment of clarity…

Sure, the world economy may be in shambolic disarray, but personally we’ve been in trouble before and yoga has always provided us with the tools to work through it, on the mat, or in the world. Budgets are tight, wallets thin, cutbacks the mantra de rigueur. What’s the one thing we don’t ever have to give up? Yoga. We can practice anywhere, anytime. At a glossy high-priced studio, pay-by-donation, or in our own homes. In overpriced yoga pants, in our PJs, or in the nude. So with all the news about financial crisis and the subsequent astronomical bailouts, we just thought, yoga is our stimulus, yoga is our bailout.

And then we thought maybe some of you out there felt the same way, which is why we came up with this, our first YogaDork offspring…We hope you like it!

Details:

Printed on ONNO brand bamboo T, ecologically and socially responsible. These shirts are a blend of 70%  super soft bamboo and 30% organic cotton. Bamboo is the fastest growing plant on the planet. It grows so quickly you can actually sit and watch it grow.

Some Bamboo fun facts:

  • Naturally organic: Bamboo is grown without pesticides and fertilizers.
  • Sustainable: Bamboo is arguably the most renewable resource on our planet. It has an extensive rooting system and needs little water, growing 4–6 new shoots per year. It is, in fact, considered to be the fastest growing plant in the world.
  • Eco-friendly: Bamboo absorbs nearly 5 times the amount of greenhouse gases and produces 35% more oxygen than the same amount of trees. It is critical in the fight to end global warming. Bamboo is rain-fed only and helps to reduce soil erosion. It is a grass, so it regenerates without the need for replanting.
  • 100% biodegradable: Bamboo fiber comes from nature and it returns entirely to nature in the end.
  • Pandas LOVE it.

It’s also a bit pricier than your average run of the cotton mill so we did our best to try and keep it affordable without us risking bankruptcy.

*A special note:* Yoga is important to us (we’re yogadorks), but by no means do we intend to belittle the gravity of the situation that is this economic crisis. In fact, that’s where the inspiration for this shirt arose. We don’t really get bailouts in life do we; consequences present themselves one way or another. But when life gets tough, we get our tuches to the mat. And in essence, yoga is our bailout.

It’s not about being handed a million (billion?) dollars. It’s about hunkering down and doing the best you can with the resources you’ve got.

Also, we’re tinkering with the idea of adding a full Organic Cotton option in different colors. Please give a holler if you’re interested. yogadork@gmail.com

Please do add more options! I’m a *blush* VERY busty yogini, and my chest laughs and laughs at those size charts.

@BirdOfParadox
Great to hear from you and to get some feedback… We would love to accommodate the curvy yoginis! We’re not using the “slim fit” but ONNO shirts do seem to run a bit snug. If you’d like, send us your measurements and we’ll find the best fit for you :) yogadork@gmail.com

I love your t-shirt idea! It totally rocks and has such great meaning for me. Wherever we are, whether it be on or off the mat, we always have yoga (and our breath) to fall back on when the going gets tough. My teachers always tells us that in class and sometimes I hear it and sometimes I actually listen to those words of advice. Thank you for this wonderful t-shirt!

How much will the shirt shrink?

April

Hi April…thanks for the Q… the shirts are preshrunk and you shouldn’t see any additional shrinkage.
just an UPDATE… since the shirts are 30% cotton be advised that you might see a little shrink depending on your washing/drying style. ie.. the hotter, the higher your chances of a little shrinkin

Hi Lina,
right now we’re working with the regular fit. honestly, there’s not too much of a difference. the shirts are stretchy and comfy, and the women’s sizes are already snug to curves :) hope that helps!
